Activity Directory for Non-Medical Psychological Counselors
The psychological counselor sees himself as a psychosocial service provider. He advises mentally healthy clients outside the field of medicine, particularly in the following areas
- Personal development
- Self-discovery
- Problem solution
- Improving relationship skills
- Maintaining mental health.
Counseling is provided - while respecting the rights of the client, in particular the right to self-determination - as objective, neutral and appreciative support for the client in clarifying their problems.
In all his decisions and counseling steps, the psychological counselor is guided exclusively by the best interests of the client.
In the event of an illness or a sign that suggests the presence of an illness, the consultant shall demonstrably induce his clients to consult a medical practitioner for clarification of the symptoms of the illness or for treatment.
Psychological counseling can essentially be understood as a solution-seeking, clarifying and supportive form of intervention that is limited in time and does not constitute a treatment for mental illness. However, it can certainly be seen as a primary prevention measure in the sense of the WHO definition of health, as it promotes the mental, emotional, physical and social well-being of the client.
In general, the overriding goal of psychological counseling is toimprove quality of life.
