Seal of Excellence for the Highest Quality and Client Safety for Non Medical Psychological Counselors

 

Since September 2014, the Professional Association of Psychological Counselors has been awarding the VpsyB seal of approval "quality-certified psychological counselor VpsyB". The quality mark of VpsyB is a public proof of quality.

The seal of approval represents the highest possible qualification level for psychological counselors and complements the certification as Psychological Counselor Expert ©. It is suitable for both existing and new counselors.

  • Differentiation from the competition: Highlighting and emphasizing special competencies compared to competitors.

Quality criteria and testing:

The certification commission of VpsyB e.V. has developed specific assessment criteria for the highest quality in psychological counseling together with the interest group for client safety in psychological counseling outside of the medical profession. Holders of the seal of approval must prove their professionalism and sound specialist knowledge by passing a comprehensive examination.

Examination procedure:

The certification examination takes place over two days in person and is held in front of at least six members of the examination board. It includes a review of specialist knowledge in oral and written form, a practical consultation session, a colloquium, a case discussion and the preparation of a specialist paper of at least 50 pages.

Professional title:

Successful completion of the examination entitles the holder to the title "Qualitätsgeprüfter psychologischer Berater - Seal of Excellence for the Highest Quality and Client Safety for Non Medical Psychological Counselors", which recognizes the professional qualification in non-medical psychological counselling.

Psychological counselors who have been awarded the seal of approval demonstrate the following competencies, among others:

 

Sound psychological counseling knowledge in the following areas:

  • Developmental psychology
  • Personality psychology
  • Methodological competence in at least 15 relevant consulting methods
  • Communication psychology
  • Theoretical foundations of psychological counseling
  • Conducting conversations in psychological counseling
  • Crisis intervention

Basic knowledge in the areas:

  • Educational psychology
  • Work and organizational psychology
  • Social psychology

Professional competencies:

Quality-certified psychological counselors have extensive counseling skills in individual psychological and psychosocial case and problem management.

This includes sound expertise in the following areas:

  • Analysis of complex consulting situations:
    • Preparation of a comprehensive analysis of the situation, problem and resources
    • Prioritizing the problem areas and focusing on the main issues
    • Selection of the appropriate counseling school for the client and the counseling
    • Dealing appropriately with the possibilities and limitations of advice
  • Planning of interventions:
    • Creating a counseling plan that is geared towards the goals agreed with the client and is clearly structured in terms of content and time.
    • Consideration of the social and cultural environment
    • Individual, situation-based design of the consultation plan
    • Situation-appropriate planning of proven and effective strategies, methods and interventions
  • Design of the consulting process
    • Ability to establish and maintain a trusting advisory relationship
    • Ability to react empathically, appreciatively and genuinely to clients' feelings, thoughts and behavior
    • Appropriate handling of the processes of transference and countertransference
    • Autonomy-promoting and appreciative implementation of the planned intervention
  • Ongoing evaluation of the advisory process
    • Commitment to responsible conduct and special ethics (cf. professional code of conduct)
    • Dealing with crisis situations
    • Extensive knowledge in dealing with crises and conflicts
    • Tools for providing personal protection in dangerous situations
    • Ability to stabilize in crisis situations, also considering the limits of one's own competencies
    • Sound knowledge of when to refer clients to specialized professionals
    • Quality and professional development
    • Reflective planning, implementation and evaluation of the advisory approach in connection with their advisory concept
    • Compliance with due diligence in file management and documentation
    • Further development of counseling skills through proven supervision, self-awareness and continuous training.
