Psychological counseling - really a sensible health care strategy?
Existential angst, bullying, burnout, loneliness, overwork, stress, relationship crises - all these topics are buzzwords that you read about in the media almost every day.
As the increasing pressure to perform, unemployment, high divorce rates, information overload, lack of contact, communication deficits and the parallel loss of family and real friendships are putting more and more pressure on people, it is obvious that the need for advice is growing.
The social development of the 21st century and its consequences for each individual is leading to more and more mental illnesses, which could certainly often be prevented with suitable preventative measures.
According to the German Depression League, most of the causes of the most common forms of depression can be traced back to social factors. Economic problems, unemployment or the fear of unemployment, stress at work or in the family, unfulfillable hopes and expectations for life, individualization and globalization, the over-complexity and unpredictability of social developments, the pressure to be mobile or a lack of prospects, anonymous digital communication or the breakdown of traditional family structures and institutions, isolation and superficiality - in recent decades, our society has accumulated more and more depressive explosives despite a permanent increase in economic performance.
It can be concluded from this that psychological counseling sessions can have a primary preventative effect as soon as work overload, family problems, loneliness and professional problems first arise. By developing solution strategies as soon as life problems are recognized and thus successfully coping with the stressful situation, the path to a spiral of problems is avoided - self-doubt and feelings of failure are eliminated and the person emerges from the crisis stronger. Psychological counseling is therefore also a health care strategy in the broadest sense.
Although more and more people enjoyed an excellent education or vocational training, they were not taught by their parents or at school how to successfully overcome the difficulties of everyday life or even strokes of fate.
These people are not helped in subjectively stressful situations if they seek advice from an untrained or unqualified person. As people generally assume that they have to present a solution as soon as they are asked for advice, the solution will ultimately be that of the person giving the advice and not that of the person seeking it. As a result, the person seeking advice may not be able or willing to fully integrate the solution into their value and belief system.
Psychological counseling can be used as conscious and planned advice and support for healthy people of all ages in a wide variety of problematic and decision-making situations.
The psychological counselor gives the client suggestions to better understand himself and his social environment, to discover and develop his social and personal skills, to live in harmony with himself and his environment again and, above all, to listen to his own needs again and to implement them consistently!
Psychological counseling is always goal- and solution-oriented. It provides professional support in reducing existing problems, stresses and strains in the private, partner, family and work spheres. The solution-oriented development of strategies for coping with problems, disorders and stress in all areas of life ultimately leads to stabilization, improvement and enhancement of quality of life.
The focus of life, discussion and conflict counseling is on career, partnership, family conflicts - including conflicts with children and adolescents, problems of children in parental relationships (separation, divorce, sexuality), life (dealing) with illness (psyche, soul) as well as life path counseling.
In contrast to friendly problem-solving discussions, psychological counseling is about objective, neutral and appreciative support in clarifying individual problems.
Psychological counseling is a psychological counseling activity outside the medical profession.
However, competent psychological counseling requires solid basic psychological knowledge in theory and practice, as well as knowledge of the dangers and limits of psychological intervention and the legal framework.
